Basic requirements to drape a Saree
To look stunning in a sari completely, you’ll need the following materials:
- A lengthy Saree (whether of Cotton, Zari, Georgette, Silk, Brocade or any other fabric)
- Blouse- of the same color or of matching the shade.
- A long Petticoat- just of perfect color of the Saree
- Safety or bobby pins- can be used to tuck your sari well
- Decorative accessories like colored matching bangles, beautiful sandals, matching bindis, hair clips, etc
Here is how to wear Saree step by step.
Step 01: Start from the pallu end (plain) & tuck your sari in the fag end (waist skirt) just near the belly button. Continue to swaddle from the left side while completing the whole round from behind till you reach the beginning point.
Step 02: Tuck around the waist moving towards the right of the body and begin the pleats roughly about the size of the finger stretch from forefinger to the thumb.
Step 03: Yank the saree to the front. Make anywhere between 5-8 pleats (about5-8 inches wide) or depending on the material. Bring them together & tuck the pleats into the skirt under the belly button and secure them with the help of a safety pin towards the left side of the waist. This trick will help the saree stay intact when you move about.
Step 04: This leaves you enough with the pallu. You now have a choice of either letting it flow (short or long floating) or pleat it together.
Step 05: For a floating look, all you need to do is bring the pallu towards the left side of your shoulder, from under the right arm, and pin it on the left shoulder while making vertical pleats for pallu. Hold it either at the forearm or leave it flowing until the end if you like. It’s a matter of your own choice.
Step 06: Bring the pallu from under the right arm and make vertical pleats (about 5-6 inches) with the border (if any) using the first pleat for giving a pleated look. Pin it on the shoulder & continue along the width of the saree.
Step 07: Pin it near the left shoulder ensuring that there is a meter gap left.
Step 08: You can also spot a long pallu & let it flow till the end of your arm.
